Boys Under 17 Intercounty Stage 2

Cambridgeshire boys U17 county team

Cambridgeshire junior squash players clinched the double this weekend winning Stage 2 of England Squash U17 Inter County Championships. They now play in the finals of the U17 and U19 age groups for the county.

Cambridgeshire boys had to play Nottinghamshire and Warwickshire. The Nottinghamshire match started well with Peter Dickinson (Hunts County) and Robert Dadds (Comberton) both winning very comfortably 3-0. Declan Osborne went 2-1 down in games whilst on the other court No 1 string, Sammy Chambers (Crown), underestimated his opponent and failed to perform, losing his 0-3. Daniel McGinn (Peterborough) knowing he may well have to save the match, coped very well with the pressure and played a positive game winning 3-0 with Osborne finishing at the same time with 3-2 win. Cambs finished with a 4-1 victory over Notts.

Warwickshire played Nottinghamshire and beat them 4-1 which meant the next tie was the decider for the place in the finals.

Cambridgeshire boys after the nail biting first match upped the stakes against Warwickshire and all won 3-0. Cambs beat Warwickshire 20-0 and look forward to playing in the final at Solihull in April.

The talented boys won the U15’s in 2006 and now have succeeded with virtually the same team to reach both U17 and U19 finals. They are looking for £250 sponsorship to purchase team kit for the big event. Any interested parties please contact team manager, Rebecca Moore 01945 774266
