Boys U19 Inter-county Championships - Stage 1 - Cambridgeshire Report

Cambridgeshire U19 Boys had an unexpected result in Stage I of England Squash Inter County Championship. Nottingham played Leicestershire in the morning winning 5-0 without dropping a game so we knew we had tough opposition before us.

Cambridgeshire played Leicestershire first and No 5 string Nils Downs and No 2 string Daniel McGinn both won 3-1. Ahmed El Refee, Robert Dadds and Sammy Chambers all won 3-0. Cambs beat Leicestershire 5-0

With Nottingham and Cambridge on maximum points it was all to play for. No 4 string Ahmed El Refee started well against Notts, Declan James, going 2-0 up in games. James hung on to the match and finally beat El Refee in the 5th game 9-0. No 3 string Robert Dadds secured a fine win for Cambridge beating Adam Auckland 9-8/9-2/9-4.

Nils Downes playing his first county fixture did exceptionally well pushing his opponent Sam Mullins but unable to clinch a game losing 3-0. Cambridge now down 1-2 in matches needed Sammy Chambers and Daniel McGinn to win. No1 string Sammy Chambers was on top form beating Richard Underhill 9-1/9-4/9-4. No 2 string Daniel McGinn played a very determined game, attacking at every opportunity beating Oliver Holland 9-4/9-2/9-2. Cambs beat Notts 3-2
