Cambridgeshire hosted the 1st stage of England Squash Boys U19 Inter County event.
The same Cambridgeshire squad won the U17’s national title last year and are keen to do well this year in the U19’s.
Cambridgeshire faced Norfolk first with good results from all of the squad. Steven Mason played a good match after a hesitant start losing the first game came back to win the second 11-7. Unable to hold his opponent he lost the next 2 games. The rest of the squad, Daniel McGinn, Robert Dadds, Peter Dickinson and Declan Osborne, all won 3-0. Cambridgeshire beat Norfolk 4-1
Warwickshire played Norfolk and looked very dangerous beating them 5-0.
Cambridgeshire knew they had to play well to beat Warwickshire and win the 1st stage. With the addition of No 1 string, Sammy Chambers, to the squad for the match gave them the comfort zone needed. The team raised their game and beat Warwickshire comfortably in the end 5-0.
Winners were Cambridgeshire, 2nd – Warwickshire and 3rd Norfolk
Cambridgeshire go through to the 2nd stage.
