Hunts County Squash Club in Hemingford Grey was once again the venue for the tournament, held over the weekend of 26/27 September. The overall turn-out was high, and it was particularly encouraging to see some promising young competitors from Abbotsley club this year.
This year’s county champions represented a good spread of clubs, though the host club claimed the most trophies! A strongly-contested Under 11 final saw Scott Drewery of Crown Lodge prevail, while Gregory Goodwin (Hunts County) proved too good for Scott in the Boys U13 final. The Under 15s final was an all-Comberton affair, with Tom Blair emerging as a decisive victor. Paul Jordan of Hunts County played superbly in the U17s, overcoming both the top seeds on his way to the title, and with hot favourite Sammy Chambers having to withdraw injured Daniel McGinn (Peterborough Town) edged out his old rival Robert Dadds to take the silverware.
Hunts County mostly had it their own way in the Girls’ events, with Tayla Mounter impressive in winning the U13 event by quite a margin and following up her victory with a closely-fought win in the U15s. Her club-mate Elsje van Es comfortably retained her U19 title, and it was left to Hayley Green of Fenland to break the monopoly in the U17s.
