With Cambridgeshire Junior Squash fully focussed on developing squads to emulate the National Winning u15 and u17 team Comberton Squash Club hosted a day- long Coaches Workshop and Junior practice Sessions.
A wide range of coaching experience was on hand from Level 3 Regional Coaches through to Young Coaches just embarking on a coaching career mid-way through Part 1.
The theme of “Key points in developing Juniors from Club through to National level” was lead by Area Academy Director David Duncalf and with the aid of inspirational video footage and views of top pros demonstrating grip, swing and stance there was plenty of lively debate and on court action as the Coaches exchanged views and information regarding techniques to get these important points across to the Players.
With National Performance Director Peter Hirst also on hand to add to the discussions the workshop flew by and we were soon on court with successive groups of Junior players who were left exhausted –but smiling, at the end of the day. Having been drilled and grilled by David and having done a range of routines with Nationally ranked Junior Rob Dadds the players were left drained but wanting to know “when can we do it again?”
The day proved so successful for both players and Coaches, who all left with new things to work on, the Organisers are already planning the next Workshop.
