BOYS U19 –2ND STAGE
Whilst there maybe a more comprehensive report at a later date there maybe a few “anoraks” out there like myself who can’t rest without wondering how the lads got on.
With the success this squad of boys have had over the last 4-5 years it is easy to get a bit blaze about the possibility of making it through to a National Finals. However, given they made it last year as pretty much an u17 team then our expectations are always high.
With the lads playing well in the recent County event, hopes were high in advance of the clashes with Worcester and Warks.
However, after sustaining an injury on Thursday night Daniel McGinn was a late withdrawal and despite a round of telephone calls the team travelled one man-short.
Still the lads were well prepared and ready to hit the courts at 11am – just not the same courts – as Peter Dickinson had gone to the wrong club!!
Fortunately having gone through all other possibilities to give Team Manager – Bill Moore ( Becs was off playing in County Match) a nervous breakdown the lads did a great job.
All the lads won 3-0 against Worcester except Sammy who sometimes goes walk about in these competitions. Still at 2-2 against an inspired Oliver Rawlings the right words were clearly imparted at the break and Sammy closed out the match with an 11-0 whitewash.
The guys were similarly impressive against Warks again all winning 3-0 with the exception of Declan Osborn who got through 3-1.
So a quick phone call so that Daniel and Graham could stop biting their nails
and now Messers Chambers ; McGinn; Dadds Dickinson and Osborn can get ready for their 2nd crack at the u19 title.
We wish them all well and more details about the finals which take place on 14-15 March will appear on this website at a later date.
