First Half Review and County Closed Call Up

First Half Review and County Closed Call Up

Well the first half seems to have flown by and we are now heading into cup matches; Christmas and then the County Closed –more of which later.
So a few passing thoughts regarding performances and predictions for 2010

Div 1 – With so many players to call upon and with Galen playing again Hunts County look nailed on for the title. With Pete Dickinson and James Berry unbeaten and James Powley looking comfortable at 2 it’s hard to see anyone getting past them on a regular basis.
Crown having a great run despite losing Sammy Chambers; with Mark Hildred on board and Andy Trim playing out if his socks they are doing really well. Special mention for 15year old Harry Taylor doing pretty well at 3 in his first season in Div1. Dome clearly struggling but all credit to them for giving it a go after being top dogs in Div 2 for so long. Congrats to Chris and Matt sitting on top of the player rankings –defences ruling there then!!

Div 2 – Now this is looking hard to call. Fenland are doing there traditional relegation followed by immediate promotion charge but CUP relegated last season are experienced and unbeaten so may be the obvious bet to come straight back up. Stamford could upset everyone’s party with the occasional appearance from former National Champion Tania Bailey supplementing an already strong squad. James Fitzpatrick and Andy Short on top of the rankings but depends if they run into Vinod or Tania and wouldn’t Vinod v Tania be a good match to watch!!

Div 3 – Portugal Place look odds on for the title in this Division with all the other teams beating each other up. The Leys Ian Nicholson the top player in this division and those of us of a certain age can’t have failed to notice that Terry Reynolds is playing again after several years off court with health issues. Great to see you back again Terry- that bloody boast still causing problems from what I can see.

Div 4- Looks like Melbourn and Comberton teams are getting away in this division but its really open and its also very good to see a number of teams are “blooding” young players and Steve Mason; Chris Shaw and Tom Blair are going well – sorry lads probably the kiss of death.

Ladies 1- Very disrupted fixture list in this Division with Melbourn pulling out.
Traditional title chasers Comberton and Hunts County struggling to keep up with Anne Babtie’s Uni team and the Histon Road Girls are going well as long as they can get a full squad out. Anne and Julia Dolman are the top players in this division and I’m not sure whether Rebecca will thank me for pointing out she’s 5 for 5 (despite the crap coaching)

Ladies 2- The title seems to lay between Hunts County 2 and St Ivo. It would be nice to see more teams in Division 1 and with Hunts losing Elsje and Nayera to University next year I think a bit of arm twisting might be in order to get the Ivo girls back up into 1- with Jayne; Angelika and Helen doing so well they really should think about dipping their toes in a deeper pool.
