Holders retain Titles as hosts dominate finals

Champions Daniel Soar and Kate Bradshaw retained their titles in the 2012 Championships as host club Cambridge players dominated the event with 8 finalists.

In an action-packed week at Cambridge Squash club, No1 seed Daniel Soar retained his title in a 4-set thriller against Essex University’s Rob Dadds. Soar was in great touch throughout the week using great control to make Dadds work to all 4 corners of the court. However Dadds’s outstanding court coverage and own shot making kept a packed show court on the edge of their seat for nearly an hour until the older and more experienced Soar came through.

Ladies Champion Kate Bradshaw retained her title in with an emphatic 3 set win over the host club’s Mhairi Dougal who had removed No2 seed Jo Scrivens in round 1.

Current Junior Champion Tom Blair gave the crowd a glimpse of the future in winning the Plate event overcoming a succession of older players during the week with his all action front court game and speed around the court.
Tournament organiser Dougal ended a busy week competing in 2 finals, overcoming club-mate Mark Perriton in the B-event final, whilst multi-title holder Sarah Howlett wrapped up both o40 and o50 Ladies events.

During the prize giving Host club Chairman Steve Casey outlined the resurgence of the Histon Road club and congratulated the club’s record 8 finalists
