We had fifteen competitors, nine of whom were from the host club, and the afternoon saw some good competitive squash, all of it played in a very sporting spirit. The event began with three box leagues of five running in parallel, and this was followed by round robin play-offs among the three fifth-placed, fourth-placed, etc. players from each box league. It was a pity that the court time allocated for the tournament wasn’t sufficient, which meant that the play-offs had to be abbreviated. We managed despite this to get all the matches completed, albeit squeezed onto a single court, and the final rankings are given below. Congratulations to all who took part, especially the top three, who were all awarded cash prizes, and to Joe Hicks, who volunteered to step in to replace a competitor who had dropped out at the last minute. Heartfelt thanks go to Mike Macnamee for all his assistance and advice throughout the afternoon, and to Andy D’Alessandro, who nobly gave up two coaching sessions to enable us to complete the tournament.
